The McKenzie Community Track & Field recently brought the community together for a successful TrackTown Pizza fundraiser, organized by new board member Matthew Barreau. The event raised close to $1,000 to support the track, while also helping introduce this special venue to the greater Springfield and Eugene communities.

Fundraisers like this do more than generate financial support—they help strengthen the connection between the track and the broader community that uses and supports it.

A Volunteer-Powered Community Asset

The McKenzie Community Track & Field (MCTF) is a volunteer-run 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to keeping the facility open and accessible for the entire community. From youth programs to community events and visiting athletes, the track has become a gathering place in the McKenzie River Valley.

However, keeping the track operating requires ongoing support. The facility has nearly $700 per month in basic operating expenses, not including the additional maintenance and upkeep that naturally comes with maintaining a high-quality outdoor athletic venue.

Because of this, MCTF relies heavily on grants, donations, and the hundreds of volunteer hours contributed each year by people who believe in maintaining this unique community resource.

Events That Bring the World to the McKenzie Valley

In addition to local fundraising efforts, the track hosts events that draw participants from across Oregon and beyond. Annual events such as the McKenzie River Trail Run and the Oregon Trail Gravel Grinders bring hundreds of participants from around the world to the McKenzie River Valley.

A Place for Ideas, Events, and Community

One of the strengths of the McKenzie Community Track & Field is that it remains open to the ideas and energy of the community it serves. Whether through hosting events, volunteering, or bringing new ideas forward, there are many ways for people to contribute to the continued success of the track.

Community members, organizations, and event organizers are always encouraged to bring forward new opportunities that help keep the track active, welcoming, and performing at its best.
