Well, it was two hours of fun in the sun yesterday at the track. At least for the elementary kids. Field Day is an annual tradition at McKenzie. The kiddos from kindergarten through sixth grade get to try out all the different field events and run a 100 meter dash with the help of some of our best high school athletes.

It’s a great event on so many levels. Interactions between the older students and their young counterparts help build school spirit. The high school kids get a chance to be the teachers instead of being the students. The staff gets a break from the classroom. They serve snow cones.

There were some really exciting races within the grades. No timers, no starters, just one two three GO! Winner get bragging rights until they get on the bus for home. Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift among the throng of pop artists blasted over the PA system for inspiration. Ribbons were handed out for good efforts and great dancing.

It was just a good day.
